Kuleni village, comprising 300 households with 1500 people from distinct ethnic groups like Tharu, Magar and others, is located 166 km west of Kathmandu. The project aims to improve hygiene and sanitation in the Kuleni community. The goal is to educate residents about the importance of a clean and sanitized environment through awareness creation, community sensitization, and promoting practices that help the community build immunity against pollution.
The project in Kuleni village prioritizes awareness about health, sanitation, and climate change. It aims to empower women, girls, and youth, promote community gardening and organic agriculture through kitchen gardening, and improve the school environment.
Project Components
- Awareness creation meeting / workshops on preservation of personal hygiene, water management, sanitation and climate change
- Motivation of the beneficiaries in direct participation in the actual program
- Trainings on community gardening and organic kitchen gardening
- Construction of Urinal toilet and Kitchen in the school
The project seeks to help the community adopt sustainable sanitation practices and facilities, promote healthy living through eco-friendly community gardening and personal kitchen gardening, and create a healthy, well-sanitized, and improved educational environment.
Project Implementation
Phase 1 (2023):
- Construction of a child friendly urinal toilet for boys and girls in Shree Saraswoti Primary School, Kuleni
- Health and sanitation awareness program
Phase 2 (2024):
- Construction of a child friendly school kitchen in Shree Saraswoti Primary School, Kuleni
- Promotion of organic school gardening
- Malnutrition – Awareness program
- First aid treatment training
This project brings significant benefits to the Shree Saraswoti Primary School, established in 1998, and its community in Kuleni. With a focus on improving hygiene and sanitation, it directly impacts 76 students and 6 teachers of the school, which caters to Nursery through Class 4 education. Additionally, the project extends its positive influence to benefit 125 residents within the Kuleni community. By improving hygiene and sanitation environment, it will contribute to the overall development and well-being of the local community, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for both students and residents alike.
